JSC Kuznetsov employees to undergo training at the NPO Saturn training center

August 25, 2011, Rybinsk — The programs at the NPO Saturn training center become increasingly popular among various enterprises of the United Engine Corporation. Thus, in August 2011 a group of foremen from JSC Kuznetsov (Samara) successfully underwent training on the course entitled “Improving of Production Area Organization and Management”.

The JSC Kuznetsov foremen rated the Saturn training program and instructors’ work highly. “We hope that within the framework of intensive sharing of best training practices amongst all UEC enterprises, the JSC Kuznetsov line managers will be able to adapt this training program to their environment, and make regular use of it in Samara,” said Leonid Ivanov, Saturn’s Personnel Department Director.

The training program for the foremen from Kuznetsov was composed of 54 academic hours and provided for both theoretical training and practical introduction to NPO Saturn’s production methods. Saturn’s leading specialists took on the role of teachers.

With the ‘deep immersion’ approach applied, the audience studied the issues of competency for a production line supervisor, particularly regarding product quality control, meeting the requirements for QMS, wages fixing and composition, labor legislation, industrial and occupational safety and health, and organization and management of the production area. Several days of the course highlighted ‘lean production’ methods, which are being actively implemented at Saturn. The students showed genuine interest in implementation and operation of principles “5S” in the facilities they visited, and the use of visual management in the sub-departments. At the students’ request, a round table was organized with the NPO Saturn foremen, providing an informal setting for the two sides to share experiences, exchange ideas on work organization, and on problems and achievements.

Agreement similar program is used at Saturn on a regular basis for training of all newly-appointed foremen of the company’s various sub-divisions. This sort of knowledge sharing is a supplement to the fundamental technical education and is essential for the day-to-day work of any line manager in a modern high-tech engine-building enterprise.
