The United Engine Corporation and the government of the Sverdlovsk region have signed an agreement on cooperation

Yekaterinburg, July 14, 2011 During Innoprom 2011  the second International Ural Exhibition and Forum of Industry and Innovations  OAO United Engine Corporation managing company (UEC) and the government of the Sverdlovsk region have signed an agreement on cooperating on work to improve the regional economys energy efficiency.

The documents were signed by the Sverdlovsk region Governor Aleksandr Misharin and United Engine Corporation general director Andrei Reus.

The agreement lays out new directions and new forms of cooperation between the parties as part of the process of realizing programs to improve energy efficiency in the Sverdlovsk region. The foundation of this program is to develop poorly allocated energy and envisages construction of a combined cycle gas turbine power plant and combined cycle plants to replace obsolete boiler plants.

Depreciation of electrical equipment in the countrys housing and utilities infrastructure is currently at about 60-70%, with 13.2% of electrical energy being lost in transmission, up to 40% for heat energy, and the effective load of boiler plants amounting to no more than 10%. As a result, electrical energy has a high cost of production and, subsequently, consumer rates are also high.

Under the agreement, UEC will conduct an analysis of the current state of electrical distribution in the Sverdlovsk region, including surveying boiler plants, and will prepare a development program, providing a selection of solutions to refurbish existing municipal boiler plants or to construct new facilities based on gas turbines and gas powered electrical generators. The energy equipment will be supplied by enterprises from the UEC group.

The development program for poorly distributed energy suggests forming a regional management company.

The suggestion is to use new 6 mW power generation facility in the city of Bogdanovich as a pilot project for the realization of improved energy efficiency in the Sverdlovsk region.

One of the strategic goals facing UEC today is that no less than 70% of our industrial power projects should be based on Russian-manufactured energy components. This is the level that guarantees national energy security and gives us the opportunity to develop our industry. It is vitally important for our corporation that we not only produce modern energy equipment, but that we also create all the necessary conditions so that each region of the Russian Federation has a well-balanced program for energy efficiency, said UEC general director Andrei Reus.

In the world today, only an energy-efficient economy can compete on the global market. Thanks to this agreement we will be able to take another step towards energy conservation in the Sverdlovsk region. Our work with UEC will not only yield significant cost savings, but will also help to improve quality of life for people in the Urals, added Sverdlovsk regional governor Aleksandr Misharin.

The joint project by UEC and the Sverdlovsk region government will be part of a nation-wide program to improve energy efficiency and conservation in the Russian economy.

OAO United Engine Corporation managing company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of OBORONPROM specializing in the management of engine-building assets.

OAO OPK OBORONPROM is a multi-faceted machine-building group of companies founded in 2002. It is part of the state company Russian Technologies. Its basic areas of business are helicopter building (OAO Russian Helicopters), engine building (UEC), and other assets.
