Oboronprom and UEC Management visit NPO Saturn

The management of Oboronprom and United Engine Corporation headed by CEO and member of the central committee of the Russian Engineering Union Andrey Reus visited NPO Saturn on January 18, 2012.

Oboronprom representatives took part in a conference with Saturn top managers, at which they looked at the companys results for the past year and development plans for 2012. They discussed the realization of the federal program to develop the military-industrial complex, including work on marine technology, the current status of the SaM146 engine program, work on the PD-14 engine, and a number of other issues.

Andrey Reus, head of Oboronprom and UEC, talked about the goals of his visit to Saturn headquarters in Rybinsk:

I generally begin the year by visiting all the factories that are a part of the Oboronprom state corporation. This year, Im starting my tour in Rybinsk. This is one of the key enterprises in our company and in the field as a whole  NPO Saturn. Over the past few years we have managed to pull the Rybinsk industrial sector out of crisis, and it is now developing dynamically. This is where the important developments on the SaM146 program are coming from, this is where production volumes have significantly increased, particularly thanks to state arms contracts. The Rybinsk design bureau has been designated the main bureau for United Engine Corporation. This is the center of competency for instrumental production, founded to meet the needs of the entire corporation. This is where we will concentrate the power of our turbine blade competency center, which is also being put together as a UEC program. This is the plant with its own contract with General Electric. This plant is clearly involved in key UEC projects. Over the next ten days, we will be visiting all the enterprises that make up Oboronprom. The goals of these visits are to meet with managers, set tasks, and improve cooperative links especially with centers of competency.

Andrey Reus evaluated the past years results for Oboronprom and UEC as positive, and noted that for the first time in the past six years, Saturn ended the year in profit:

I am satisfied with the results in terms of volumes  our next task is to improve efficiency, and for this we must use Lean Technology and other organizational methods. Right now the enterprise is completely busy. So I think these results are very positive, but there remain issues to solve going forward.

Speaking about government support for high-tech companies, Andrey Reus noted that the measures taken have worked. Saturn is a shining example. By all economic indicators, 2-2.5 years ago the company was on the verge of bankruptcy, but it received a lot of support which enabled us to preserve Saturn. I am grateful to the Saturn team who have worked hard. The support measures and the teams hard work combined perfectly. The Rybinsk plant has very good prospects for development. This is one of the fastest-growing industrial facilities in Russia, said Andrey Reus.

NPO Saturn is an engine-building company specializing in the development, production, and aftersales servicing of gas turbine engines for military and civil aviation, electrical generating and gas transport facilities, and military and civil marine vessels. Saturn is a part of the United Engine Corporation, itself a subsidiary of OBORONPROM, specializing in managing engine-building assets.

United Industrial Corporation OBORONPROM is a multi-faceted machine-building group founded in 2002. It is a part of the Russian Technologies group of companies. Its primary areas of business are helicopters (Russian Helicopters), engine-building (UEC), and other assets.
