NPO Saturn expands its list of purchasing using the b2b-saturn e-commerce platform

The idea of organizing competitive bidding with the goal of optimizing purchasing using the b2b-saturn e-commerce platform, integrated into the unified b2b-Center system of e-commerce, came up at Saturn in October 2010. In 2011 Saturn took the first steps towards conducting purchasing on a competitive basis. Between May and December 2011, 194 trades were placed using the b2b-saturn platform, amounting to no more than 10% of the company’s total purchasing. The total savings on these trades amounted to 8.5%, which was a good result.

Due to the positive effect of purchasing on a competitive basis, the decision was made to significantly expand purchasing through b2b-saturn in 2012. UEC has ordered that from 2012 the B2B-Center system will be the single, unified e-commerce platform for all companies that are a part of United Engine Corporation.

Purchasing goods and services through competitive bidding allows the company to significantly reduce expenses, by creating more efficient use of resources, increasing openness and transparency in the purchasing process, expanding the circle of suppliers and developing fair competition between them, and creating conditions in which the company’s need for quality products, goods, and services are met in a timely way and at a favourable price.

NPO Saturn is an engine-building company specializing in the development, production, and aftersales servicing of gas turbine engines for military and civil aviation, electrical generating and gas transport facilities, and military and civil marine vessels. Saturn is a part of the United Engine Corporation, itself a subsidiary of OBORONPROM, specializing in managing engine-building assets.

United Industrial Corporation OBORONPROM is a multi-faceted machine-building group founded in 2002. It is apart of the Russian Technologies group of companies. Its primary areas of business are helicopters (Russian Helicopters), engine-building (UEC), and other assets. In 2010 the corporation’s turnover exceeded 170 billion rubles.

B2B-Center is a Russian operator of electronic trading (Economy Development Center) founded in 2002, and is one of the largest developers of electronic trading systems for corporate clients. The B2B-Center system allows each company to join as both an organizer and as a participant in trading processes at any level of complexity (there are more than 40 variations): competitive negotiations, price/offers requests, all types of tenders, and others. To date, the system has conducted more than 130,000 trades with a total value of more than 1 billion rubles. B2B-Center has more than 72,000 clients and suppliers from 87 countries around the world.
