SaM146 Engine Certified by EASA

Paris, January 23, 2012  January 17, 2012. PowerJet has received a Certificate for the SaM146 1S18 engine for regional aircraft from the European Air Safety Agency (EASA).

Getting the certificate for the SaM146 1S18 engine is another important landmark for PowerJet, said Jacques Desclaux, chairman and managing director of PowerJet. This version of the engine significantly increases the range for the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft (SSJ100).

One of the main characteristics of the new version of the SaM146, the 1S18, is the take-off thrust (16,100 pounds), which allows the Sukhoi Superjet 100/95 to be exploited with increased range with maximum takeoff mass and increases the range up to 4,578 km (2,470 nautical miles) with a full passenger complement. The engine uses the same hardware as the other engines in the family, so it does not require reconfiguration of the aircraft.

Since the Sukhoi Superjet 100 with SaM146 engine was launched in April 2011, it has confirmed its operating characteristics in commercial exploitation. As of December 31, 2011, the SaM146 engine had more than 6,500 flight hours and had flown to more than 40 points around the world. The SaM146 engine has a technical readiness coefficient of more than 99%.

As of today, the Sukhoi Superjet 100 has 168 firm orders.

PowerJet participates in the sales of the SSJ100 aircraft and the marketing innitiatives, together with Sukhoi Civilian Aircraft and the joint enterprise SuperJet International (Sukhoi/Alenia Aeronautica).

*EASA and the Russian certifying agency AR MAK issued Certificated for the SaM146 1S17 engine on June 23 and August 9, 2010, respectively, certifying the SaM146 engine for use in regional jet aircraft.

PowerJet is a subsidiary and equal joint venture of Snecma (France) and NPO Saturn (Russia). The company is responsible for all aspects of the SaM146 engine program, including development, production, marketing, sales, and servicing. The SaM146 engine, with developing thrust of 15400-17800 pounds, with its overall dimensions meets the needs of the modern regional aircraft. The first application of the SaM146 engine was in the new Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional aircraft.
