Perm Engine Company: investment works

Perm/09.04.2012 The Perm Engine Company has announced the results of its plan for organizational and technical development in 2011. The basis of the plan was the implementation of new technologies and equipment. In 2011, PMZ acquired 17 machines, workcenters, and processing units, for a total sum of 200 million rubles. The implementation of this modern equipment lead to a savings of 640 million rubles.

In 2011 the unique production complex ALD was launched into operation, which applies thermo-insulating ceramic coatings to turbine blades, allowing their operational lifespan to increase dramatically. A FinnSonic automated washing assembly prepares the blades to receive the coatings, by thoroughly washing and automatically drying them. Using this assembly also eliminates the use of harmful hydrocarbons.

The acquisition of milling, turning, and grinding machines, as well as presses, thermal kilns, and laser beam welding machines allows the plant to save time, increase productivity, and improve production details. For example, the implementation of the S20 E Turbo five-axis grinding center has increased the quality of complex-profile cutting tools and the re-tooling of imported tools, which has reduced labor requirements and lead to a savings of about 1.5 million rubles. The expected benefits from implementation in tool production of the electro-spark axial punching machine and the vertical milling machine for making stamps from high-tensile materials are more than 12 million rubles annually.

In 2011 the company held large events on environmental protection. The launch of local waste treatment plants, intended to clean the runoff from the galvanizing and etching departments, has completely eliminated the discharge of dangerous chemicals into the municipal sewers. The new dust and emissions equipment launched at the sandblasting station in the chemical-thermal assembly will catch 99% of emissions from production — about 1.5 tons of dust per shift, and this will significantly improve labor conditions at this station. The switch of galvanizing baths and containers for storing dangerous waste products on this assembly has significantly reduced the output of dangerous substances and also lead to an annual savings of 6 million rubles.

All together between 2008 and 2011, Perm Engine Company purchased 107 units of modern equipment for a total sum of 1.22 billion rubles. For comparison, in the preceding four-year period from 2004 to 2007, the company bought 37 machines for a total of 295 million rubles. In 2012 the company intends to increase investment in new technology and equipment.

AlekseyMikhalyov, managing director of Perm Engine Company:

“Modernizing our machine fleet and technological production base is one of the key areas of development for PMZ, the basis for ensuring the competitive advantage of both our current and future products. Meeting the tasks set to the Perm Engine Company team by the United Engine Corporation, on increasing production volumes and improving the quality of our products, requires continuing implementation of modern technology and equipment. Over the next eight years, in accordance with the company’s ‘Strategy 2020’ program, the plant is planning to invest more than 15 billion rubles into technical equipment.”
