PS-90A aviation engine has flown 3 million hours

Perm/13.04.2012 In April 2012, the sum total of hours in the air of aircraft equipped with the Russian civil aviation PS-90A engine made by the Perm Engine Company exceeded 3 million hours.

This indicator was a gift for the 20th anniversary of the PS-90A’s certification in April 1992. At present this aviation engine is used in 82 long-haul airplanes in 11 domestic and five foreign airlines. Throughout its operational life, the PS-90A engine has been constantly updated and production technology has been perfected, allowing significant improvements in reliability and operational lifespan. The leading PS-90A has worked more than 38,000 hours since it was launched.

In early April 2012, another important border was crossed, with the new PS-90A-76. This engine was first put to use in an Il-76TD-90 plane owned by Silky Way Airlines, and has worked more than 9,000 hours without needing repair. The leading engine is continuing to work, and as of April 12, its working life amounted to 9,017 hours. The PS-90A76 was certified in 2003 and has been in mass production at the Perm Engine Company since 2004. It forms the main engine for a new model of transportation airplanes of Russian civil and military aviation — the IL-476, whose first flight is planned for June of this year.

AlekseyMikhalyov, Perm Engine Company managing director:

"The PS-90A is our factory’s main product, a gas generator which serves as the basis for several versions for aviation engines, as well as for gas turbine units used by oil and gas and power companies. Expanding production and perfecting production technologies is of the utmost importance for us. Of particular importance for us is fulfilling the state contract to produce more than 500 PS-90A76 engines between 2012-2020, for the United Aviation Building Corporation, for the future transport plane, the Il-476. This will allow us to fill our company’s production capacity and will ensure the necessary growth in development and technical retooling for the Perm Engine Company in a period of preparation for mass production of the fifth-generation PD-14 engine.

Additional information:

In total the Perm Engine Company has made 370 PS-90A engines in four versions — the PS-90A, PS-90A1, PS-90A2, PS-90A-76, which are used in the following aircraft: Il-96-300, Il-96-400T, Tu-204, Tu-214, Il-76TD-90, and the Il-76MF.
