Perm Engine Company has made the main part of the nodes for the first PD-14 demonstration engine

Perm/09.06.2012 On May 30, the Aviadvigatel assembly workshop assembled and delivered for testing the first demonstration engine of the fifth generation PD-14 engine. The production of this engine involved broad cooperation with the United Engine Corporation (UEC). In preparing the parts and the nodes for the PD-14 working model, seven UEC companies were involved — Aviadvigatel in Perm, Perm Engine Company, STAR-Inkar, UMPO and Motor in Ufa, NPO Saturn in Rybinsk, and Salyut in Moscow.

Most of the parts and nodes were made by the Perm Engine Company, which assembled the high-pressure turbine, the high-pressure starter compressor, part of the low-pressure turbines, part of the combustion chamber, and other parts. In the future, Perm Engine Company’s work on mass production of the PD-14 fifth generation engine will increase: the company will be making nearly all parts of the gas generator and will manage general assembly and testing of the engine, which will amount to about half of the total work on the new engine. In addition, Perm Engine Company will be responsible for repairing and servicing the engines in operation.

Aleksey Mikhailyov, Perm Engine Company managing director:

"The program for the fifth generation PD-14 engine is one of the key directions for the Perm Engine Company, to which we are devoting an enormous amount of attention. Establishing mass production of the PD-14 and launching it into operation will be our company’s ticket to the future, stability for our work, work for several generations of workers, since the construction of each new gas turbine engine is a complex, high-tech project and the basis for many modifications of the engine both for aviation and industrial applications, with an operational lifespan of 30-40 years.
