Perm Engine Company leaders take part in QMS seminar

Perm/20.08.2012 The upper-level managers and specialists from PMZ took part in a seminar on Quality Management System as a means to perfect company management systems, based on principles of quality management.

The program for the consulting seminar included subjects such as ‘Developing management training’, ‘Interrelation of QMS and the company management system’, ‘Legal basis for QMS’ and ‘The AS/EN 9100 standard’. Seminar participants looked at the basic understanding and the particulars of QMS for companies in the aviation industry, and analyzed the relationship between QMS and systems of financial management, and worked out the basic principles of international and Russian legislation on aviation. Particular attention was paid to analyzing the intention, structures, and additional requirements of the AS/EN 9100 standard.

The significance of this training is strengthened by this certification of the production of the future fifth generation PD-14 engine under AS/EN 9100 standard. Under this standard, companies producing aviation technology, including aviation engines, for the international market can get certified. Airplanes with engines made by the Perm Engine Company are today in use in Cuba, India, Jordan, China, and Azerbaijan.

Sergey Tylibtsev, Perm Engine Company director for quality and seminar participant:

‘The main goal of this event was to ‘arm’ participants with modern management tools, allowing them to objectively evaluate the efficiency of company management. The seminar drew great interest from participants — practically everyone spoke up, discussed, presented their views on how to improve the company’s management systems. We reached an understanding that certification under the AS/EN 9100 standard is important for an aviation industry company, and that in preparing for certification there are no second chances. Both production organization and improving the equipment fleet are important, as well as supporting the cleanliness and culture of production, and making sure all departments and divisions are running smoothly, and detailed coordination, and meeting national requirements for quality standards — all seminar participants were convinced of this, and that was the main result of the event.

The seminar preceded certification of our production under AS/EN 9100, which will happen by the end of August 2012. We understand that quality is what the customer expects, and we are undergoing certification at the request of our partner, the Irkut aviation corporation, which will be making the new MS-21 airplanes with Perm-built PD-14 engines. It’s important for the aircraft builders that the engines produced for their planes are certified in line with international standards, and for PMZ it is important to prove our high quality and therefore the competitiveness of our products. Without an AS/EN 9100 certificate we won’t have many opportunities to get a European Aviation Safety Agency certificate, without which it would not be possible to operate our products in Europe and compete successfully on the global market.

Perm Engine Company (PMZ) mass produces aviation engines for civil and military applications, as well as industrial gas turbine units for power stations and gas transportation.
