First Perm-built GTU is delivered to the South Stream gas pipeline

Perm/December 18, 2012. In December the Perm Engine Company under its agreement with the United Engine Company (UEC) delivered the first GTU-12P gas turbine unit with 12 mW capacity for the Kubanskaya compressor station. A total of four GTU-12Ps are planned for Kubanskaya.

The GTU-12P gas turbine unit, developed by the Aviadvigatel design firm, is intended to drive the centrifugal fan of natural gas in the Ural GPA-12 gas transportation unit block made by Iskra-Turbogaz (developed by NPO Iskra, Perm).

During its operation on Russia’s unified system of gas provision, the GTU-12P gas turbine unit has demonstrated its efficacy. The Perm Engine Company has made more than 75 GTU-12P units for gas transportation, which have worked nearly 2 million hours in total.

Oleg Korolev, Perm Engine Company Commercial Director:

“Delivering the GTU-12P for this new gas pipeline is undoubtedly a new link of cooperation between Perm Engine Company and Gazprom – following on from the Nord Stream pipeline, our gas turbine unites are being launched into operation at installations along the ‘South Corridor’ system of gas pipelines – the Russian terrestrial section of the South Stream strategic gas pipeline.

Additional information (from Gazprom):

Construction of the link between the Kubanskaya compressor station and the Korenovskaya CS is the first stage of implementing the project to build the South Corridor system of pipelines. This system will allow us to send additional volumes of natural gas to the regions of central and southern Russia in order to develop industry, public utilities, increase installation of mainline gas provision, and provide continuous supplies of gas to the South Stream gas pipeline.

In total, the South Corridor gas transportation system will include 2,506.2 km of pipeline. As part of this project, plans include the construction of 10 compressor stations with a total capacity of 1,516 mW. The through-put capacity of the South Corridor system of gas pipeline will be 63 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The project is being implemented 2010-2017.

This project covers eight constituent entities of the Russian Federation: Nizhny Novgorod Region, Penza Region, Saratov Region, Volgograd Region, Voronezh Region, Rostov Region, the Republic of Mordovia, and Krasnodar Region.

Perm Engine Company (PMZ) mass produces aviation engines for civil and military applications, as well as industrial gas turbine units for power stations and gas transportation.
