NPO Saturn holds the first competition for prize in programmed design management

April 10, 2013, Rybinsk. At an expanded operational meeting, NPO Saturn in Rybinsk held the awards for the winners of a competition for a prize in programmed design management. The projects using programmed design management principles were implemented throughout 2012 in a number of the companys divisions.

Ilya Federov, Managing Director of NPO Saturn, awarding the diplomas to the winners, emphasized the special significance of the competition projects for the companys future development: I believe this process is of highly significance. The competition has revealed projects which can be used in the company not only today, but in the future, throughout the next 5-6 years. The methods of programmed design management used in these projects are currently being implemented in our company and are aimed at achieving maximum effect.

The competition began on February 1, 2013. There were 18 entries. Altogether, 146 people took part in the competition  125 of them represented project teams from Saturn, and 19 specialists were from SatIZ and VolgAero. In addition, the competition also included a representative from French firm Snecma, and one from RGATU. The biggest group of specialists came from the directorate for information technology (50 people), who were involved in seven out of the 18 projects, and who earned the most points.

The aim of the competition was to develop and improve systems of programmed design management (PDM) at the company, to increase employee productivity, and to stimulate the implementation of PDM for solving the companys business tasks. According to Marina Kustova, the Deputy Managing Director for Strategy and Innovative Development, The aim of the competition was to uncover and identify the best practices at NPO Saturn, to standardize them, and create the opportunity to use them in other projects. To discover the people who are successful leaders of change, who are achieving success, so that the company can count on them in the future.

Based on expert evaluations, the largest number of points went to all the project winners from the service of the director of production (553.7), and the service of the director of information technology (397.1).

Based on the number of points assigned on average for each project, the most productive were the projects from the service of the deputy managing director for the development of production systems, and VolgAero.

The largest numbers of points were assigned in the following categories:

-Significance of the project to the company  405.90 points

-Achieving the goal of the project  365.80 points

-Transferability of results  319.70 points

The categories that collected large numbers of points were: Project of the Year 344.90 points, Start of the year 262.70 points, and Project Team 250.30 points.
