April 26, 2013, Rybinsk — Representatives from NPO Saturn took part in Youth in Science Inter-Institute Student Scientific and Technical Conference. The conference took place on April
Professor Valery Poletaev — Rector of RGATU, Honored Machine Builder of the Russian Federation, and doctor of technical sciences — gave the opening address at the plenary session. He noted the significance of the conference for both educational institutions and companies, wished all participants good luck in their further work, and in presenting their reports.
Dmitri Ivanov, Saturn’s Director for Innovative Development, presented a report on the subject ‘Saturn’s innovative policy to attract young staff to companies in high-tech sectors of the economy’.
Yury Shmotin, Saturn’s Chief Designer, in his presentation told about the peculiarities of designing next-generation gas turbine engines. Talking about the significance of the conference, Yury Shmotin said, “the subjects of academic work get in the way of scientific managers, students, and RGATU post-graduates, although Saturn is interesting because these works are in progress in innovative projects. Saturn’s scientific-technical council has determined a number of potential innovative areas for the company, and it is particularly in these areas that we are interested in supporting the university’s work. Today this concerns four main areas: creating low-emission combustion chambers, implementing high-temperature casting and composite materials, developing and using parts from composite materials in a polymer matrix. Working with RGATU, with its best students and young scientists, we will form the basis for solutions to these real scientific and technical tasks placed before both the company and the school.”
