The goals of the conference were: to exchange experiences on quality management, to tighten manufacturing times, and to reduce the cost of production. Establishing mutually beneficial relationships, aimed at improving companies’ production systems, was another focus.
Today Saturn Gas Turbines has agreements with 387 suppliers, about 30 of which are classified as strategic. The suppliers’ conference was a key step in implementing the Partners program, developed according to the order from the company’s Managing Director, Igor Yudin. The attractiveness of the company’s products in terms of quality, price, and time, in other words its competitiveness, depend to a significant degree on the quality of its suppliers’ work. Over the two days of the conference, suppliers to Saturn Gas Turbines learned about the company’s achievements, and heard 13 reports on examples of practical changes using modern technology to improve production systems.
At the round table, Saturn Gas Turbine suppliers could share not only their own opinions on the methods used at the company, but also get answers to their questions.
“We wanted our suppliers not only to receive information about our company, but also for them to see the people, see their eyes, see the results of their work. It was important to us that the conference participants understand that we are using a systematic approach to making changes. The systematic changes to the production system are the basis of our competitiveness on the modern market. I feel that we were able to bring this message to our suppliers, and that means that our experience can be broadly shared. And this is extremely important, when a group of companies working on the same thing all take similar approaches to management, and are all speaking the same language,” said one of the conference organizers, deputy managing director of Saturn Gas Turbines for quality and improvement, Sergei Pankov.
