Cooperation Expands Between Aviadvigatel Designers and Novosibirsk Academics

Aviadvigatel hosted a delegation from the Novosibirsk Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ITAM SB RAS).

The delegation included:

  • Vadim Aksentyevich Lebiga, Executive Director of ITAM SB RASs International Center of Aero-physical Research and doctor of technical sciences
  • Vitaly Nikolaevich Zinovyev, Academic Secretary of the SB RAS united academic council on power, engine-building, mechanics, and management processes and the academic council on mathematics and informatics, and candidate of physical and mathematical sciences.

As part of the implementation of the program of cooperation between Aviadvigatel and institutions in power, engine-building, mechanics and management processes within RAS, the Novosibirsk academics presented to the Perm designers working on the PD-14 engine their developments based on the method of thermo-anemometry for long-term implementation in practice at acoustic testing stands in the testing complex. This will give Aviadvigatel specialists a unique opportunity to determine the parameters of the flow of the gas-air mixture (the speed, temperature, velocity fluctuation and temperature), on the boundary layer and the mixing layer both on a model unit flow channel and in a gas turbine aviation engine.

The data obtained with the help of measurements systems based on thermo-anemometers, will add to testing of pulsation, noise, and acoustic intensity, which are currently underway at the Perm design firm. The aggregate results of the acoustic tests and pulsation tests will enable Aviadvigatel designers to create better sound-absorption, as well as improving the parameters of the PD-14 engine, which will improve its competitiveness, and meet ecological requirements under Chapter 14 of the ICAO Standards.
