UEC presents new developments at MAKS 2013

The United Engine Corporation (a subsidiary of Oboronprom, part of Rostech State Corporation ) is taking part in the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS 2013, to be held at the aerodrome of the Gromov central testing facility. As part of the exhibition, UEC will be showing examples of both new high-tech products, and engines which have already proven themselves in operation. The corporation’s exhibition will as usual be on display in Pavilion C3.

One of the key items is the holding’s promising new engine, the PD-14, which is the product of cooperation between all the UEC’s companies and design firms. As part of the exhibition, the company will be demonstrating one of the working examples of the engine, which after testing was brought to MAKS 2013, as well as various nodes made for the PD-14, in particular the reversing thruster from composite materials and a model of the aligned ventilator blades.

On August 29 the company is planning to present the PD-14 engine to potential customers, which will take place in the conference hall of pavilion C3 at 11:00 am.

In addition, in the civil aviation section, visitors will get to see a real example of the SaM146 engine fitted to the SSJ100 regional airliner. This is the first engine produced in Russia that has received an EASA international certificate. Since production began at GSS, 75 engines have been made, and plans for 2013 envisage 52 more.

Visitors to the corporation’s exhibitions stand will be able to learn more about the SaM146 and its operating principles via an interactive system, allowing them to see a model of the gas turbine engine and its key parts and nodes, in 3D.

In the military aviation section, visitors’ attention will be drawn to the model of the engine for the Su-35 fighter jet, the 117C, in life-size. This is a major modernization of the AL-31F engine. The developments included changing the construction of the main nodes, as a result of which the parameters of the base product were significantly improved. The application of a digital integrated engine throttle and an oxygen-free ignition system significantly improved reliability of the autopilot system and allowed the product to launch at aerodromes. Su-35/Su35S aircraft with 117C engines have to date made more than 700 successful flights, and the total stand and flight time of the 117C amounts to 7,235 hours.

Full-scale models of the AL-55I, RD-33MK, AL-31FM1 and the AI-222 engines will provide insight into the corporation’s current work for military aviation.

Helicopter engines production will be represented by models of the VK-2500P engines (intended for the Ka-52 ‘Alligator’ and Mi-28N ‘Night Hunter’ helicopters), and the TV7-117B for Mi-38 helicopters. The latter is due for certification in 2014. The creation of VK-800V turboshaft engine has been a UEC project for helicopters for the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Emergency Services, the Ministry of the Interior, and other Russian state services. On this basis of the next 2-3 years, the company may develop a range of engines of 600-1,000 hp. The VK-800V engine could be used as the engine on helicopters of either single- or dual-engine configuration, for example on the Ansat-U training helicopters, light multi-purpose helicopters belonging to the Russian Ministry of Defence.

Also as part of the exhibition, UEC will present engines for the space program (the NK-33 and RD-107/108), models of the fuel apparatus, and parts.
