Saturn Gas Turbine units provide continuous gas provision to the Kaliningrad region

24.09.2013, Rybinsk.

Yesterday in the Kaliningrad region there was a ceremony dedicated to operational launch of the first section of the Kaliningrad underground gas reservoir.

The event was attended by Gazprom chairman Aleksey Miller, the Russian deputy minister of regional development Sergey Vahrukov, deputy presidential envoy in the North-west federal district Stanislav Voskresenskiy, governor of the Kaliningrad region Nukolay Tsukanov, and heads of major divisions and subsidiaries of Gazprom and associated organizations.

ďToday we have an excellent event ó we are launching the Kaliningrad underground gas reservoir, the first in Gazpromís system to be located in salt caverns. This is not just another facility on the countryís gas map. This is an experience that we can use to build similar underground facilities in Russia. Reservoirs of this type have a number of clear advantages. In particular, we can operationally launch a pumping routine and switch it over to withdrawing. This means that in autumn and winter we will always have a full reservoir in Kaliningrad, providing a high degree of reliability for deliveries to gas consumers,Ē said Aleksey Miller.

The main productive capacity of the Kaliningrad underground gas reservoir, being a part of Gazprom UGR, is composed of gas transportation units GPA-4RMP produced by Saturn Gas Turbines (a part of the United Engine Corporation), developed for use in compressor stations for underground gas reservoirs in salt caverns. The GPA-4RMP is a modified version of the gas transportation unit GPA-4RM using a reciprocating compressor. The GPA-4RMP unit is intended to function across a wide range of pressures, ensuring a natural gas compression rate higher than 2.5...3, on the new underground gas reservoirs. Saturn Gas Turbines is the only domestic producer of this kind of equipment.

Saturn Gas Turbines is an integrated supplier of high-efficiency terrestrial power equipment for Gazprom, power-generating companies, public utilities, oil and gas companies, and energy-intensive production enterprises.

Saturn Gas Turbines is the United Engine Corporationís head company for manufacturing power and gas transportation units and building power generation facilities.

United Engine Corporation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of OBORONPROM. More than 85% of the leading companies specializing in the development, mass production, and aftersales servicing of gas turbine equipment are integrated into UEC, as well as key companies- selectors of the industry. One of UECís priority directions is implementing comprehensive programs for developing companies by implementing new technologies that meet international standards

Gazprom UGR is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom, and was created on March 19, 2007 as a part of efforts to modernize the corporate management structures within Gazprom. It brings together all Russian underground gas storage facilities. Its aim is to organize the storage of natural gas. Its main activities are pumping gas into reservoirs, storing gas, and withdrawing gas from reservoirs. Its main activities ó pumping gas into reservoirs, storing gas, and withdrawing gas from reservoirs ó Gazprom UGR conducts its activities in 16 regions of the Russian Federation, from west to east, from Kaliningrad to Yugorsk, and from north to south, from St. Petersburg to Stavropol.
