October 28, 2013, Rybinsk — In September 2013 in Brussels, Belgium, the European research project UMRIDA (Uncertainty Management for Robust Industrial Design in Aeronautics) got underway, part of the seventh framework program of the European Union. NPO Saturn OJSC is a fully-fledged participant in this project.
The goal of the UMRIDA project is to develop and implement in the design process new methodologies, allowing the design to incorporate production deviations from the nominal sizes of parts and the parameter regime, ensuring the given integral characteristics of the product as a whole. This methodology will allow construction to be optimized before it begins.
The project includes leading European universities: NUMECA (Belgium), INRIA (France), TU Delft (The Netherlands), TU Dresden (Germany), CIRA (Italy), CIMNE (Spain), and so on, as well as industrial companies: DASSAULT Aviation (France), TURBOMECA (France), Rolls-Royce (Great Britain), MAN (Germany), ALENIA AERMACCHI (Italy), and others. NPO Saturn OJSC is taking part in the project as an industrial partner.
The UMRIDA project is the continuation of the NODESIM-CFD project (Non-Deterministic Simulation for CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)-Based Design Methodologies) which from 2006 to 2009 included participation by NPO Saturn.
The UMRIDA project is planned for three years. Based on the results there are plans to implement modern methods of robust design and optimization of construction at NPO Saturn OJSC divisions.
