NPO Saturn has been awarded a SBT certificate for its new upcoming product

December 12, 2013, Rybinsk  NPO Saturn has successfully completed design work on creating a new small-size gas turbine engine. The certificate of state bench testing for the upcoming engine was confirmed by the customer. The awarding of the certificate of SBT took place at NPO Saturn on December 12, 2013 at the expanded session of the state committee.

As NPO Saturns general designer Yuriy Shmotin said, the completed development of the upcoming small-size gas turbine engine is very important for the company. For the first time in Russia we are creating a full electric gas turbine engine which is superior to existing analogues. The certificate of state bench testing was confirmed by the customer, which means that the engine is ready for delivery to mass production.

The engine, based on requested proposals, had high requirements for external dimensions, weight, and parameters. Based on the need to meet these requirements the construction included a number of non-traditional solutions which required long and complicated design and experimentation work.

Today the companys design firm has well-developed production and a modern testing facility, which allows it to carry out a full cycle of creating new types of products, from analytical work to preparing working prototypes and conducting certification testing.

In 2012 the NPO Saturn design firm was set up as the base for the United Engine Corporation design firm. This fact was the reason for the high competency of NPO Saturn specialists in the area of developing gas turbine engines for military, civil, and terrestrial applications. Over the past decade dozens of new NPO Saturn developments have received certificates or undergone SBT and flight tests.

As of today in just the design firm service of the chief designer there are more than 800 people, of which 10 are doctors of technical science, 40 are candidates of technical science, and more than 50 are graduate students. Thanks to the companys active human resources policy aimed at attracting young specialists, about 40% of the specialists in the service are under 35. The average age is 42.

As a part of the expanded session of the state committee, commemorative symbols and awards for distinguished results in creating new technology were awarded to twenty employees of NPO Saturn.
