Young specialists from the division Engines for Military Aviation awarded stipends by the President of the Russian Federation

Eight representatives from the UEC division Engines for Military Aviation will over the course of three years receive a stipend from the President of the Russian Federation. Of them six work in the lead company of the division — the Ufa Engine Industrial Association — and two work at Motor. The stipends were awarded in accordance with the Order of the President of the Russian Federation ‘On measures of state support for young workers in organizations in the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation’. The candidacy of the young specialists underwent a strenuous selection process and was approved by the Expert Council of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and by the Military-industrial Committee under the Russian President.

Each of the specialists is a unique specialist in his own way and has served in implementing innovative technology in the production of gas turbine engines. For example, the head of the bureau in the department of UMPO’s chief welder, Andrey Supov, is involved in developing technologies of linear friction welding, deputy chief metallurgist of the association Pavel Nikiforov is one of the authors of a joint project between UMPO and MISiS on creating intermetallic blades and holds a number of patents on creating high-tensile alloys, the head of the bureau under UMPO’s chief industrial engineer Aidar Aidashev has proposed a number of ideas on improving the process of testing the AL-31F, AL-31FP, and 117S engines and gas transportation units.

The Ufa Engine Industrial Association is taking part in this competition for the second time. In 2011 Presidential stipends were awarded to nine young specialists from the company.

Ufa Engine Industrial Association (UMPO) is one of the largest producers of aviation engines in Russia. Its turnover in 2012 was 25,425 million rubles. Its primary areas of business are the production, service, and repair of turbo-jet aviation engines and gas turbine units, as well as production and repair of helicopter technology units. UMPO is part of the United Engine Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of OBORONPROM handling engine-building assets. The association is part of the Russian Industrialists Union, the Bashkortostan regional division of which is headed by UMPO managing director A. V. Artyukhov.

The division Engines for Military Aviation is a business unit of the United Engine Corporation which includes companies and design firms which make and develop aviation engines for military applications. The division’s list of main programs include engines for the AFAS (T-50), the AL-41F01S (117S) engine, the RD-33 and AL-31 family of engines, as well as developing, repairing, and servicing GTU. The division was organized in 2011 and includes UMPO (the head of the division) and its affiliates Lyulki and Lytkarinsky Machine-building Plant, Chernyshev, Motor, and Salyut and affiliates (by agreement). The division’s consolidated turnover in 2012 was 32, 645 million rubles (not including Salyut).

United Industrial Corporation OBORONPROM is a multi-faceted machine-building group founded in 2002. It is part of the Russian Technologies group of companies. Its primary areas of business are helicopters (Russian Helicopters), engine-building (UEC), and other assets. The cost of manufactured products and rendered services in 2012 amounted to 270 billion rubles.
