Perm-built PS-90A-76 on course for Ulyanovsk

On March 14 the Perm Engine Company delivered two PS-90A-76 engines to Aviastar-SP (Ulyanovsk), from the second set under a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defence. A further two engines will be delivered to the client by the end of April.

In July of last year a large contract for the delivery of 156 engines for Il-76MD-90A engines through to 2020 was signed. The first delivery of four engines was performed in the fall of last year.

Sergei Popov, managing director of Perm Engine Company:

It is important for us that in its 80th anniversary year, the company is seeing significant growth in production volume. The large order from the Russian Ministry of Defence confirms the unique characteristics of the PS-90A-76 engine  it meets all modern and upcoming requirements for ICAO on noise and emissions, it is 12% more efficient than its predecessors (D-30KP2 engines were installed on the Il-76). Due to increased efficiency flight distance of an Il-76MD-90A loaded with 52 tons has increased from 4,000km to 5,000km.

Sergei Dementyev, general director of Aviastar-SP:

The Il-76MD-90A is our future. We have linked our biggest hopes for the development of Aviastar with this aircraft. The Il-76MD-90A is an overhaul modernization of the Il-76. The fuselage of the new aircraft is practically unchanged, but the wings are comprehensively different  they use developments from the design of the wing for the Il-96. In addition, in the modernized Il we are using new aviation electronics and modern Perm-built PS-90A-76 engines with a draught of 14.5 tons each. Our assembly lines and capacity can already make up to 6-8 airplanes per year. According to the pace set for us by the United Aircraft Corporation, by 2018 we should be up to capacity of 18 planes per year. (quote from SmartNews).
